NATIONAL TOUR REEL

LucindaGoodwin_20260710_Candice Lorrae_0227.jpg

“Candice Lorrae is a First Nations award winning artist that has transitioned heavily into festival and headline touring. She is set to bring her live band to major events like the upcoming Queenscliff Music Festival and the Port Fairy Folk Festival. She is also building anticipation for a full national tour following the release of her highly anticipated debut solo album in March 2027, Paperbark & Lilies.”

THE SHOW

Paperbark & Lilies feels like a record found somewhere between the Top End of Australia and Laurel Canyon with it's warm guitars, open harmonies and songs with stories running through them. That’s what audiences can expect from this show. Soaked in indie-folk, alt-country and dream-pop, with the spirit of Fleetwood Mac-era ’70s folk-rock, Paperbark & Lilies is Candice Lorrae’s debut album with music that feels lived-in, sun-soaked and carried across generations.Stories are shared of her family’s tradition of building fish traps, alongside the remarkable legacy of her great-great nana, Bett Bett, known through the books We of the Never Never and The Little Black Princess. With a full five-piece band behind her, Candice brings these songs and their stories to the stage with live visuals, rich harmonies and an organic, free-flowing sound — a show made to pull at the heartstrings one moment and have you moving the next.

THE STORY

Paperbark & Lilies is a record years in the making. Born in Garramilla/Darwin and now based in Naarm/Melbourne, Candice Lorrae is a Jawoyn and Torres Strait Islander artist, producer and songwriter who has spent more than two decades in Australian music, touring nationally as one half of The Merindas, producing, mentoring and helping shape the music of others. Paperbark & Lilies marks a new chapter: a warm and gentle body of work that turns the focus towards her own story. The album reaches into Candice’s family history and the Top End landscapes she grew up around. Stories of her family’s tradition of building fish traps sit alongside the remarkable legacy of her great-great nana, Bett Bett, remembered through We of the Never Never and The Little Black Princess. These aren’t stories sitting in the past, they continue through family, through place and now through Candice's songs. Musically, that history meets the present. Shimmering guitars, rich harmonies, layered synths and hazy textures move between indie-folk, alt-country, soul and dream-pop, carrying the warmth of the ’70s records Candice loves. Paperbark & Lilies is where those worlds meet the Top End and the city, old stories and new songs, generations of family and an artist finally stepping forward in her own name.

TESTIMONIALS

Candice has an effortless and innate musicality which makes her a beautiful songwriter and an artist able to connect deeply with any audience.

- Liz Stringer

Candice’s music offers audience not only brilliant lyrical storytelling and melodic hip wiggling joy, it is a deep reflection of her Jawoyn and Torres Strait Islander ancestry and her childhood experiences of travelling across Country to find a new life and new path. The show is layered with incredible music presented by a skilled band, vocals and storytelling by Candice throughout the set, projections steeped in nostalgia of original footage shot during her adventures in her Toyota Corona on handycam, and an epic centrepiece of a fish trap installation – that not only visually frames the musicians with its two-metre height and 8 metres of wire held by poles – but also transforms to become a sonic accompaniment for Candice and the band.

- Siena Balakrishnan, The Bowery Theatre
